Äidin viime vuonna saamat sukat oli loppuun kulutettu, joten oli uusien sukkien aika. Lahjaksi päätyivät nämä:
X-mas is gone, the year has come to an end and it's time to look back. The X-mas presents has been given and received and there was a lot of joy in them. Here is a little report on the presents I gave to my friends. The socks I gave my mom last year are all worn out so it was time for a new pair. These are the new ones:

Äiti sai myös intialaisista lasihelmistä tehdyn kaulakorun (siitä ei näyttänytkään olevan kuvaa).
Mom also got a necklace made from the glass beads I bought from India (I don't seem to have a picture of that).
Kummitätiä lahjoin vihreillä tossukoilla (niistäkään ei näyttänyt olevan kuvaa valmiina).
For my godmother I made slippers (I don't seem to have picture of them finished).

Veljen tyttöystävä sai yhden Pomatomussukan ja lupauksen toisesta :) (ei sitä aina kaikkee ehdi). Kuva sukista (tai sukasta) kunhan saan saatettua homman loppuun.
My brothers girlfriend got one Pomatomus sock and a promise of another :) (I didn't have the time to finish the second one). A picture of the socks (or sock) is coming after I get it done.
Blogimiehen siskoa ja lapsia lahjottiin kahdella pipolla ja mekolla.

Lahjaksi sain paljon kaikkea. Neulomiseen liittyivät pikku pussukka kaikenlaista neulontakivaa (silmukkamerkkejä, kerroslaskuri ja puikkostopparit) sekä 4 kerää Wetterhoffin Sofiaa luonnonvalkoisena.
I, myself, got lots of nice stuff. Among other things I got 4 balls of Wetterhoffs Sofia yarn and a little bag that contained for example stitch markers.
Ennen joulua päätimme lähteä pakoon hössötystä ja joulustressiä ja suuntasimme tiemme sinne minne kaikki tiet vievät.
Paljon pastaa, nähtävyyksiä, viiniä ja rentoutumista. Niin no, lankoja tietysti myös. Netistä löysin tiedon, että Roomasta löytyy 3 lankakauppaa; Lana Gatto, Lana della Vecchia ja Filati Filpucci. Näistä lankakaupoist kaksi ensimmäistä oli kuulemma mukavia ja siistejä ja viimeinen muistutti rautakauppaa :)
Loppujen lopuksi kaikki kaupat löytyivätkin. Yksi oli suljettu, eikä missään ollut tietoa uudesta sijainnista, mutta muihin pääsin ihmettelemään suuren maailman lankatarjontaa.
Before X-mas, blog-man and I decided to run from all the X-mas hustle. We went where all roads lead.
A lot of pasta, sightseeing, wine and relaxing. And of course some yarns. From the internet I found that there is (at least) three yarn shops in Rome; Lana Gatto, Lana della Vecchia and Filati Filpucci. Shelley had told in her blog, that two of these shops are nice and one looks like a hardware store :)
After all we found them all. One was closed and I couldn't find anywhere any information of a new location. The other two were as Shelley described.

Ensimmäinen päivä (tiistai), kun yritimme löytää lankakauppoja, ei ollut kovin hyvä. Filati Filpucci oli auki, mutta kuten sanottu, se muistutti enemmän rautakauppaa. Paljon lankaa likaisen näköisissä pusseissa ja suurin osa langoista näytti koneneulontalangoilta. Kaksi totista miestä tuijotti tiskin takaa, joten shoppailuhalukkuus oli aika nolla. Ei siis minun paikkani.
Seuraavaksi suuntasimme katsomaan Lana Gattoa. Ja voi sitä surkeutta, kauppa näytti lopullisesti suljetulta, eikä mistään löytynyt informaatiota mahdollisesta uudesta osoitteesta. Viimeinen toivomme oli Lana della Vecchia. Ja surkeuksien surkeus, se näytti olevan kiinni. Eikä mistään löytynyt tietoa aukioloajoista. Mieli oli aika maassa tässä vaiheessa :(
Keskiviikkona lähdimme blogimiehen kanssa vielä uudelleen katsomaan Lana della Vecchian ja oi ihanaa, se oli auki :) Kaupan ikkunassa oli aukioloajat ja sen olisi pitänyt olla auki myös tiistaina, kun kävimme. Mikä lie mahtanut olla syynä sen kiinni oloon.
Kauppa oli pieni ja aivan täynnä lankaa. Myyjä oli ystävällinen ja iloinen, vaikkei tuntunut puhuvan yhtään englantia. Keskustelimme "lankojen kielellä" ja mukaani tarttui 10 kerää Grignascon extrafine merinoa ja 3 kerää Zegna Baruffan Maratonaa (myös extrafine merinoa).
Ja matkani oli pelastettu :)
The first day (tuesday) when we tried to go yarn shopping we didn't have much luck. Filati Filpucci was open, but it was as said, like a hardware store. Lots of yarn in dirty bags; most of it looked really thin, like yarn you knit with a machine. And two men staring from behind the counter. Not a shop for me :)
The next place we went to was Lana Gatto. And to our dissapointment, it was closed (for good). And last we headed for Lana della Veccia and it was also closed (but not for good). There was no signs from which we could see shopping hours. It was a low point in the trip for me :(
The next day, I asked blog-man to come with me to Lana della Vecchia again, to see if it was open. And it was :) The shopping hours in the window said that it should have been open the day before too, so I don't know why it wasn't.
The shop was small and full of yarn. The sales lady was nice and helpfull even though she didn't seem to speak any English. We communicated with "the language of yarn" and I bought 10 balls of Grignasco Merinofine and 3 balls of Zegna Baruffas Maratona (extra fine merino also). And my trip was saved :)
Kaiken kaikkiaan onnistunut joulukuu ja onnistunut vuosi 2007. Paljon olen oppinut uutta neulerintamalla ja paljon olen saanut aikaan. Ensi vuonna sitten taas uudet kujeet, uudet neulemallit ja toivottavasti paljon uutta tulee taas opittua.

All in all a succesful December and a succesful year 2007. I have learned a lot in the field of knitting and I've done a lot. Hopefully next year is good too and I learn more new things.
